Don’t Let an Injury Take You off the Tennis Court This Summer

As the Grand Slam season heats up at Roland Garros and later Wimbledon, we hear a lot about the professional tennis players managing their various injuries.  Nadal had knee issues and Federer was nursing a sore back.  These top two players have world class trainers and therapists to help them quickly recover.  And they learn over their careers how to train and properly manage their diet and exercise.

It’s not much different for the amateur player.  Pain management Tyler Texas experts; for example, treat many common sports injuries that happen all the time to sports players of all levels. As an avid tennis player who has been playing at least four times a week for the last fifteen years, I find that keeping injury at bay is key to a steady and satisfying court experience. Many amateur players, like me have experienced the occasional tennis elbow or shoulder issues.   Severe pain from an injury that lasts more than three months, however, may need to be treated for chronic pain, according to pain management Tyler Texas specialists.

I believe the most important way to avoid injury is to add a specific weight training routine at least three times a week.  For the tennis player, exercising all the big core muscles, like legs, abdomen and upper body gives one the strength to play well.  For shoulder muscles, it is important to only do weight training movements that are downward or sideways, never upwards.  An upward shoulder lifting motion for the tennis player could interfere with the natural service motion balance that is so important for the tennis player.  This downward motion happens during overhead shots as well as serves.

Along with weight training, endurance can be built up by brisk walking or running three times per week.  And of course, a healthy diet which is important for any athlete serves the tennis player well.

Most people don’t understand that is really important to take care pf their bodies… while exercising they make a great effort but never do whatever is necessary to recover.

I didn’t know the facts about warming up…I suppose it makes sense that different sports would have different ideal workouts.
