Natural endometriosis treatment eases pain

1

Endometriosis treatmentEndometriosis refers to when the tissue that lines the uterus, called the endometrium, implants and grows in areas it shouldn’t. This wandering tissue sometimes bleeds and/or secretes into the surrounding tissue when a woman gets her period resulting in cramps and pain wher the tissue has implanted, which could be outside the uterus, the ovaries, fallopian tubes, bladder, or bowel. Symptoms may include the painful periods and bowel movements and lower back pain. Endometriosis treatment is available, but there are more natural ways to help ease the pain. They include:

  1. Eat fish. Consume more fish high in omega-3 fatty acids such as mackerel, salmon, and tuna. A diet high in fish oil can help reduce the endometriosis pain. Opt for fish oil capsules, taken according to the dosage on the label.
  2. Modify meat eating. Red meat is high in arachidonic acid, and leads to tissue inflammation. Eat at least 2 cups of vegetables such as broccoli and cauliflower a day, along with 20 to 50 grams of soy protein. Try to have ½ cup of cooked whole grains such as barley or brown ice.
  3. Use heat pad. Place a warm heating pad on your abdomen. Keep the temperature warm, and use the pad as long as you need to. For safety, place a cloth between the pad and your skin.
  4. Exercise. Evidence suggests that women who exercise are less likely to have endometriosis. If you are in too much pain for vigorous exercise, try strength training, riding a stationary bike.
  5. Get your B vitamins. It is recommended to take a multivitamin supplement that contains 50 to 100 milligrams of each of the B vitamins. The B vitamins can help your liver process estrogen more effectively.
  6. Less dairy.
Cut back on processed dairy foods such as milk, cheese, and yogurt. Non-organic dairy foods increase estrogen levels, and that increase can intensify the pain.

Endometriosis and infertility are linked, so using these methods, as well as consulting your physician can help reduce discomfort and aid in fertility.

Is It True That Women Feel More Pain Than Men?

0

It has long been a common belief that women feel more pain than men and they are more prone to certain pain-related conditions such as fibromyalgia, migraine and irritable bowel syndrome. Chronic neck pain Mn specialists, for example, may treat more women than men for these painful acute and chronic conditions. However, is it really the case that women feel more pain than men?

A recent study from Standford University looked at this theory to further clarify and understand how pain is felt by each sex. The researchers found that women reported higher levels of pain for back pain, joint and inflammatory pain, diabetes, hypertension, ankle injuries and even sinus infections. One theory they have to why this is the case is that men may not be as willing as women to admit that they feel pain, but nonetheless they feel the pain. However, men may be beginning to speak up considering that amount of patients reporting chronic pain has been on the rise over the last years.

What they are finding in general is that an epidemic of chronic pain is spreading to both men and women, with over 116 million Americans affected each year.

Still a Soda Drinker? Another Reason to Kick the Habit

1

A recent study warns against drinking soda, either diet or regular, as it showed to increase risk of stroke, particularly among women, while coffee may actually decrease your risk of stroke.

Studies on what contributes to heart disease or stroke are becomingly increasingly important as heart disease and stroke continue to be a huge problem in the United States and around the world. Cardiologist in Detroit, for example, are committed to treating and educating patients at risk for this conditions.

Soda is already on the bad list of foods as many studies have linked it to weight gain, diabetes, and high blood pressure and cholesterol. Now, researchers at Cleveland Clinic’s Wellness Institute and Harvard University have found another reason to avoid it like the plague. Their study linked soda consumption to increased risk of heart problems and stroke was published in May in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. They followed 43,371 men and 84,085 women for several years and found high rates of stroke among those that regularly consumed soda.

In a new study, researchers found that drinking soda — diet or sugar-sweetened — can boost your risk of stroke, especially if you’re a woman. Conversely, drinking either decaffeinated or regular coffee decreased stroke risk.

While numerous studies have linked soda consumption with weight gain, diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol, researchers from Cleveland Clinic’s Wellness Institute and Harvard University report that their study is the first to examine soda’s affect on stroke risk. Conversely they found that the antioxidant properties of coffee from the chlorogenic acids, lignans and magnesium may reduce stroke risk.

Strict Controls Placed on Painkiller Prescriptions

0

New strict controls that are designed to closely monitor painkiller prescriptions have been put in place to make sure that doctors do not over-prescribe this highly addictive group of drugs known as opioids.

According to an article in the New York Times yesterday, some doctors are finding it very hard to work under these new conditions as painkillers are the most commonly prescribed class of medications in the United States. In fact, over the last ten years, painkiller prescriptions have quadrupled.

Personal injury doctor Tyler Texas specialists at CareFirst work under the principle that opioids are powerful drugs and they must be taken as exactly as directed. Their close supervision and strict policies help prevent patients from having access to more than the medication needed for their condition.

Other doctors, however, according to Dr. C. Richard Chapman, the director of the Pain Research Center at the University of Utah, (quoted in the New York Times), are “prescribing like crazy”. While the highly addictive nature of these drugs is well-know, according to federal data there is only limited evidence of their long-term effectiveness or risks.  Without completely understanding how patients are affected long-term by opiates, some doctors may be putting patients at great risk unknowingly.

Online Prescriptions for Addictive Painkillers Halted in California

1

Online prescriptions for painkillers that have addictive properties have become a serious threat, according to an article published yesterday in the New York Times about an Oakland pharmacy that had issued over 5,000 online prescriptions before their license was revoked. Due to the highly addictive nature of pain killers and their focus on numbing symptoms rather than healing them, pain management specialists are veering away from them.

Pain management and workers compensation Dallas specialists, for example, offer a comprehensive approach that includes physical therapy, chiropractic medicine, and even monitoring the psychological effects of pain. Such an approach is focused more on healing, recovery, and overall well-being.

Painkillers, on the other hand, are highly problematic, hence the recent problems discovered in California. The California State Board of Pharmacy found that Byung Sik Yuh, the owner of Nichols Hill pharmacy in Oakland had issued online prescriptions to people that had never met their doctors and never had physical examinations.  Mr. Yuh then agreed to pay $150,000 in fine in order to keep his license. In fact in 2009, Gov. Jerry Brown supported having an online database in order to keep track of all patients’ drug history and Mr. Yuh, is reported to have agreed to use this system.

Back Pain Bergen County

Back pain associated with hours of office work, can be easily avoided with small exercises.

Back pain Bergen County believes that moderate exercise on-the-job is an important ingredient in ensuring healthier lives.

After one hour of sitting, office workers should stand up and walk around. In fact they should spend 25% of their time standing. Sitting for longer puts pressure on the discs and back muscles do not receive enough blood.

If you feel back pain from sitting, there are simple stretching and relaxation exercises to help:

  1. For shoulder blades and back, stretch the left and right arm upwards towards the ceiling alternately.
  2. For back muscles, stand up and gently bend the torso backwards and forwards.
  3. For neck and upper back muscles link the fingers behind the head and gently push forward for 10 seconds while simultaneously bending the head back to the nape of the neck. Then place the chin on the breast for 10 seconds.
  4. Take the stairs instead of the elevator. This helps strengthen back muscles.
  5. Your chair should have adjustable height, and be ergonomically designed with an adjustable backrest and adjustable armrests. Your sitting position should be as upright as possible.

Always watch your posture!

Dr. Hector L. Lopez Jr. says Omega-3 Fish Oil Supports Resistance Training

The multidimensional supplement with crossover applications for strength-training athletes

By Hector L. Lopez Jr. MD, CSCS, FAAPMR

Many athletes and fitness enthusiasts have come a long way over the last 20 years, when it comes to the perception of the role that fat plays in diet.  I am sure most readers can remember the “low-fat” marketing blitz of the 80’s with many food manufacturers in the aisles of every grocery store.  Well, fast-forward into present day and the much maligned nutritional villain of the past has now been re-categorized to understand the structural differences between the various types of fats based on their carbon chain length and degree of unsaturation.  Out from the depths of obscurity, is a new superhero within the family of nutritional fats or lipids.  Those heroes are the long-chain, marine-based omega-3 fatty acids known as Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA).  They are found abundantly in cold-water finfish such as (Salmon, Albacore, Sardines, Anchovies, Mackerel and Herring) to name a few, and most shellfish.  Hector L. Lopez Jr. MD also believes that a high-quality, concentrated fish oil supplement can also be a convenient, safe and effective method of increasing your consumption of these multi-functional essential fatty acids.

Although the heart, circulatory system, blood lipid profile, joints, immune system, metabolism and brain health benefits of omega-3 essential fatty acids are familiar to many, there are a bevy of potential benefits for the hard-training strength/power athlete or fitness enthusiast that often go unnoticed (1,2).  Individuals undergo strength training or weightlifting in an effort to increase strength and gain or maintain lean body mass (i.e., muscle and bone).  There is now compelling evidence from research published over the last 5-7 years suggesting fish oil may be underappreciated for its ability to support the gains from resistance training routines.  There are 4 main mechanisms by which fish oil may exert its powerful benefits: controlling the inflammatory response muscular anti-catabolic and anabolic actions, insulin sensitivity and metabolic advantages, and multi-organ system support.

Nonprofit Works to Optimize Quality of Medical Care and Costs

0

For many decades, doctors have been faced with the challenge of prioritizing patient care and the exorbitant medical costs. According to a New York Times article in the Well section, over twenty years ago, the managed care movement took off in efforts to dramatically reduce medical bills and expenses

The problem continues as the need to partner with the medical industry goes ever more apparent. The fact is that the healthcare industry is complex, expensive, and one where costs are difficult to cut

AR Logix, Inc., for example, an industry leader in partnering with medical providers and hospitals in their healthcare accounts receivable service and revenue cycle, are helping to create efficiencies within the medical business.

Recently, a nonprofit organization, Costs of Care are beginning to collaborate with medical educators and health care economists at Harvard Medical School and at the Pritzker School of Medicine at the University of Chicago to design and make videos and educational materials aimed at transforming medical students education and making clinical decisions regarding quality of care and cost. Their intent is to move their educational modules, called the Teaching Value Project, forward by gaining support from the American Board of Internal Medicine.

The payment patterns and medical collections of the American medical system complicate teaching young doctors how to work the system. The hope is that this will change soon.
